Tune: Settle For A Rambler from Sisco & Pals

Sisco Makes it to Australia

3.5 stars (out of 5) (3= "Good, worth the money and a worthy addition")

For more than three decades, Gary Sisco and his pals The Holy Modal Rounders, Michael Hurley and Jeffrey Frederick, have been paid-up members of a parallel universe in American music.
Their tribe has ranged through the years, fuelled by a deep love of rootsy, rocking music and an even deeper vein of insanity -- born in the hippie era, but totally focused on their own muses;  sharing common traits with outlaw and alt country, but too soul-deep and plain nuts to be so easily pigeonholed.
They make pure Americana far beyond the shallow sounds so often spruiked under that "marketing term."
The titles of these gritty tunes, featuring a patchwork of players and approaches from the late '70s and the early '80s, tell their own story -- "If You're Riding Next To Me," "Settle For A Rambler," "Bottle At My Side," and "Whiskey Willie" among them.
